Geauga Lake: A New Era of Fun - May 1st, 2004
Upon arriving to the grand reopening ceremonies, despite the reports of bad weather and dark skies, excited employees of all ages were on hand to welcome us and wish us a fun day. While waiting for the event to get underway, the media, coaster enthusiasts and park managers felt that something was different. Just after 9:00am ceremonies got underway, and park and local dignitaries lined up to cut the ribbon. As the countdown begun everyone was once again a kid, counting down the seconds until it was time to play in one of the most thrilling playgrounds in the country. The ribbon was cut and the park was officially reopened as Geauga Lake. Screams of joy, this time from the crowd and not the roller coasters, was as loud as ever as everyone(even the managers) celebrated such a fun event.

With only officially running park for less than a month, Cedar Fair deserves major props for their attitude and improvements to the park. Though many guests were confused at what the name of the park was (I hear numerous guests ask that question), it was clear Six Flags packed up shop and left nothing “Six Flagsish” behind. Though not every ride was in operation, by mid-day the rides that were running were moving the people through the line. Yes, there was a few signs missing and such, but overall the park looked great.

Dominator (formerly Batman Knight Flight) had the entire Batman-type theme removed. Major thumbs go up to the crew who kept the trains moving quite quickly! Steel Vermon(Superman: Ultimate Escape) was closed, but(as shown in the one picture) supports have been added to it's tower.

While entering the park, guests were giving temporarily maps. Throughout the park there was merchandise, signs, and even properly labeled trash cans with the new Geauga Lake logo.

Overall, all I can say is WOW. Though not everything was “perfect” so many things weren’t not only changed to fit the new brand but somethings have been improved. Employees are excited, guests are excited, and in the words of the parks - "its going to be fun!"
