Why is Cedar Point so special?

             Written By: Andrew Hyde

One of the most frequent questions I get asked by people is, "Why do you like Cedar Point so much?" or "Why do you go to Cedar Point so much?". That is a hard question to answer because Cedar Point is not just an amusement park, it's an experience. I love roller coasters and rides, but those aren't the only reason I make many trips to the Point each summer. Yes the rides and the roller coasters are great, but what makes Cedar Point so special is the atmosphere. If you ever walked along the beach, or walked along the Frontier Trail I think you know what I mean. If you ever have time between riding the greatest collection of rides, just take a stroll along the beach and see what I mean.

At Cedar Point you have very little contact with the outside world, mostly because it is located on a peninsula. That makes the experience even better. Since childhood, everytime my family went to Cedar Point we played a game on the way there- who could spot the first roller coaster. Nowadays, even though I go many times a year to the Point, I still like to play that game. Every time I drive up the causeway I am shaking with excitement -even if it is the second or third time that week.

So the next time you go complaining about Cedar Point not doing much for 2001, or whatever else you complain about, think about what it has, not what it doesn't have. Whatever Cedar Point adds next-- even it is the smallest coaster on earth, I bet they make it one heck of a good ride.

I wrote this editorial for many reasons. One, many people seem to forget how special Cedar Point is, especially lately since Six Flags has been announcing major improvements to it parks. Another reason is that I wanted to share my feelings about the slice of heaven we call Cedar Point. Thirdly, I wanted to explain why the site is called Experience the Point-- because Cedar Point is not just a park, it is an Experience.
